$300 Dollar PC Wonder... Product Review

I wanted to jump on here and write a quick short review of the ASUS Eee PC laptop style computer that I just purchased. I am really impressed with this little thing and wanted to share.

The Eee is basically a small laptop, with a 7" screen, that offers many of the features of a much larger laptop. All while doing it at half the price and half the size. It has built in 802.11g wireless connectivity, High definition audio, microphone, and comes loaded with a version of Linux as an OS.

If you are unfamiliar with Linux or a bit worried about taking on a different OS, don't worry, this thing makes it easy. It also has Open Office on it, a competitor, and in my opinion, a better option to Microsoft Office. The version I bought, the 8G, also has a built in web cam along with the 4G model. There are 4 models in all and a handful of colors available. I choose black which is a gloss black and looks very nice. I was also taken by the white, which was a pearl white, and it was very nice as well. The only real difference between each unit is the memory, 512MB with most models and 1GB with the 8G. Also the flash memory size, going from 2GB in the 2G Surf, to 8GB in the 8G.

I have been using the unit for about 1 week now. It is very quick, starts right up, and allows me to surf from bed without having to break out the 17" wide screen laptop which takes twice the time to boot. The screen is crystal clear and the navigation is straight forward.

I would only have to say that for some, the keyboard might feel cramped. It is small. Also, with only 8GB of flash memory, there isn't a ton of room for monstrous programs. However, as a web PC or a compact word processor and spreadsheet system, this fits the bill.
